Shane Murphy – Quebec Day – Photo set

Montreal Blues man Shane Murphy joined us last night to perform during Canada Men’s stunning 8-2 defeat over Germany.

Shane has performed performed and gigged at over 1,000 shows across North America, having opened for the likes of Adele, April Wine, Grammy winning British Reggae band Steel Pulse, Our Lady Peace, among others. Shane is also nominated for a 2009 Lys Award which recognizes the best up and coming blues artists in Quebec.

Sam Roberts Joins us Tonight!

Juno award-winning rock star, Sam Roberts, will be joining us tonight from 9:30-11 pm.

Roberts is best known for his catchy pop hooks and philosophical musings with songs like ‘Brother Down’, ‘Where Have All The Good People Gone’, and ‘The Gate’. His 2002 debut release, The Inhuman Condition, became one of the bestselling independent releases in Quebec and Canadian music history.

Triple Gold Club Induction Ceremony – Photo Set

Last night, 22 of the NHL’s greatest of the past few decades were honoured into a very special club as the Stanley Cup, the International Ice Hockey Federation ( IIHF) Cup and the Olympic Gold medal for Hockey were brought together in the same location for the very first time. Players were awarded with a name-and-numbered sweater of their national federation, a Tissot watch and gold TGC lapel pin. The looks on their faces are just priceless; scroll on for some of the most candid and touching photos in hockey history.

Lunch (and coffee) with NHL Star, Paul Coffey!

Our next celebrity auction meet and greet is with NHL star, Paul Coffey!

Born in Weston, Ontario, Canada, Paul Coffey was known as one of the smoothest and speediest skater in the NHL. Opponents and fans alike were in awe of his ability to accelerate on corners. Having won Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Coffey leveraged his skating ability becoming the fourth forward on many rushes.

Coffey completed his NHL career with a spectacular 1,531 points in 1,409 regular season games and 196 points in 194 playoff games. Coffey also holds several NHL records, won the Norris Trophy (NHL top defensive player), in 1985, 1986 and 1995 and played on Team Canada in the Canada Cup (1984, 1987 and 1991), the World Championships (1990) and the World Cup of Hockey (1996). Named to the NHL All-Star team fourteen times and inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004, Paul Coffey is a true International Hockey All Star.

Triple Gold Club

Today, we honour the esteemed members of one of hockey’s most elite groups, the Triple Gold Club, reserved for players who have won an Olympic Games gold medal, a World Championship gold medal, and the Stanley Cup. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) considers them to be “the three most important championships available to the sport” and we are just so proud to be hosting the induction ceremony today; there’s a reason our house is the Cathedral of Hockey!

A bit of background history; Tomas Jonsson, Mats Näslundand Håkan Loob unknowingly became the first members on 27 February 1994 when Sweden won the gold medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics, but the term first entered popular use following the 2002 Winter Olympics, which saw the addition of the first Canadian members.

There are currently twenty-two members of the Triple Gold Club—nine Swedes, six Russians, five Canadians, and two Czechs. interestingly, six of the players are defencemen and the remaining players are forwards; no goal tenders have won all three championships.

Canadian members include Rob Blake, Joe Sakic, Brendan Shanahan and Scott Niedermayer.

Yvan Cournoyer, LONG time veteran of the Montreal Habs (1964-1979) will be gracing a lucky bidder (and friend) with his presence over dinner at the Molson Canadian Hockey House on February 23rd, 2010.

Cournoyer was named captain of the Habs’ in 1975 and became only one of two team captains to win Stanley Cups throughout his two year tenure as captain.

His smaller size and speedy skating skills earned him the nickname, The Road Runner. His skills well benefited him as he has won a whopping total of 10 (!!!) Stanley Cups as a player.

Yvan Cournoyer was instated into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982 and currently serves as ambassador to the Montreal Canadiens. Don’t miss this chance to meet with a classic hockey legend. Bid now!

After this afternoon’s predicted victory over Sweden, don’t forget to stick around for Country singer star, George Canyon, who will be saluting Team Canada’s Western Canadian players with his western style music!

George Canyon is one of the most successful Canadian Country singers of his day. He is the winner of multiple Juno awards, four Canadian Country Music Awards, and once nominated the ECMA Entertainer of the Year award. Canyon is name behind smash hits like “I Want You To Live“, “My Name“, and “Betty’s Buns“.

Currently living in High River, Alberta, Canyon is a huge hockey fan. “I’ve played hockey since I was really young. Growing up in Nova Scotia, hockey was life and I was at the rink every weekend!” Canyon is even assistant coach to his son’s team, and has played on some Old-Timers charity teams as well. Not just a hockey and country man, he also holds an appointment in the Canadian Forces as Honourary Colonel at 14 Wing Greenwood.
